New Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Models for 2014

Lots of New Dinosaur Models Scheduled for Release in 2014

These days there seems to be a big interest in dinosaur toys, especially models of these now extinct prehistoric animals. It can be quite difficult for collectors and dinosaur fans to stay up to date with all the new releases. However, most of the manufacturers have already set production schedules and dedicated fans can stay one jump ahead by being vigilant and frequently checking blog sites and forums for updates.

2014 Big Year for Dinosaurs

You don't have to be an Australian billionaire to think about creating your own prehistoric animal themed park. For a small outlay, you can build your own "Jurassic Park" and enter the fascinating world of prehistoric animal model collecting. A dinosaur model collection can become a source of pride and help people to learn about and to appreciate long extinct animals. With a major film release all about the life of a horned dinosaur (Pachyrhinosaurus) in December and with the work which is on-going with regards to the long-awaited new Jurassic Park movie a lot of new dinosaur and prehistoric animal models can be expected next year. Most of the major manufacturers have already sorted their production schedules and prototypes of new replicas are in testing. Announcements about new additions to the Schleich, Safari Ltd and Bullyland ranges can be expected in the autumn, with most models in production in time for the first of the 2014 trade fairs.

Early Announcements Made

With a new dinosaur being scientifically named and described every twenty to thirty days or so, there are a lot of new genera of the Dinosauria to choose from when it comes to making a new replica. It is also worth remembering that as our knowledge of the Dinosauria grows, so older models, once thought authentic, become out of date when compared to the latest scientific interpretation of fossils. This means that manufacturers may instruct factories to re-make models that were launched in the past. A typical example of this is the number of new Spinosaurus models that have been made in the last three years or so. As more discoveries are made, as existing fossils are re-interpreted so older replicas are re-modelled and re-tooled to produce more up to date versions of these large, meat-eating dinosaurs.

First Indications of New Releases

Collecta have already announced that they will be making a new Spinosaurid dinosaur model in their not-to-scale series next year. This will be a replica of the basal Spinosaur known as Ichthyovenator, which is known from fossils found in south-east Asia (Laos). Other new dinosaur model announcements from Collecta include a model of a dead Stegosaurus and a 1:40 scale model of a Carcharodontosaurus. Other model making companies will not sit on the fence for much longer, expect press releases being posted up on special interest blog sites and forums, all aimed at trying to keep the dinosaur fan and model collector up to date with developments.

2014 is going to be a great year for prehistoric animal model collectors.
