How to Use a Halloween Toy Story Costume For Fun and Learning Beyond Halloween

Many people remember a time in their childhood, when they wished to have a favorite toy come to life. This idea in fiction certainly did not start with the Toy Story movies. However, it is a fascinating version of this idea.
Even better for a child who loves the Toy Story movies is the idea of becoming on of these favorite characters in real life for a night. Would your child like to be Woody, or Buzz or Jessie or even the alien or Rex? Yes there are costumes available for each of these toys or even more. It is more than the toy becoming alive! It is the experience of being the toy for a while.
Ask your child, "What would you say if you were Woody, or Buzz or Jessie, or one of the other characters? How would you feel?" To enhance a child's anticipation even before the day, ask him or her to draw pictures of himself or herself as the favorite Toy Story toy. Display the drawing or drawing in a prominent place, such as on the refrigerator door.
Furthermore, you can use the Toy Story costume to create situations for the character might face and how he should respond. For example, if someone says something mean to Woody, what should Woody do or day? Ask the child to create a story about this. If the child can write let him write it himself. Otherwise, write down the response for him. Either way save it in a memory box to enjoy for years to come.
What does this exercise accomplish? Several things. First, it provides an imagined environment with a favorite character. This further develops a way to let the child think about dealing with a situation he or she will probably face in school or somewhere in his or her childhood. This provides a safe and fun way to teach a child how to deal with the given situation.
You can carry this even further. Using the Toy Costume character and preparing for Halloween create other situations the toy might find himself. For example, what should Woody or Jessie do when out Trick of Treating? Do they stay with the others in the group or do they go off by themselves? Do they stay on the sidewalk or walk in the street? Do they cross at the corner or in the middle of the street?... and so on.
Help the child find answers for the character. In a very safe and non-frightening way you can use a Halloween Toy Story costume character to teach a safety step to protect your child on Halloween night. Edit your questions to fit your individual situation.
Halloween is a fun and enjoyable holiday for many, especially children. The Toy Story toys give life to the wish of may children allowing them to envision toys actually coming to life.
