Kids Bikes Selection Tips

Riding a bike is one of the passages of childhood. Most children go through it. In fact kids start pestering their parents for a bike as soon as they see another child with one.

As a parent you may be tempted to make your child happy and want to buy a bike that they ask for. But it is important that you do some research first and make sure that you pick the right bike for your kid.

Here are some tips for you to choose the right bike for your child.

Make sure that you pick a bike size that is appropriate for your child's age. A basic guideline is that children two to three years most probably need a 12 inch wheel bike. Kids four to six years will probably be happy with a 16 inch wheel bike. Kids seven to eight a 20 inch bike wheel and kids nine and older will probably need a 24 inch bike wheel. Also remember that these are just guidelines. You should also take your kids height into consideration. Therefore irrespective of age, if your child is really tall then you might want a larger wheel size bike.

Also make sure to check the frame design. It should be built so that the cross bar or top bar is low enough so that your child can get on and get off the bike easily.

The next to consider is the brake system. Does the bike have handbrakes or coaster brakes? Coaster brakes are great for younger kids. Many bike models now come with both types of brakes for added safety.

For younger kids check if the bike comes with training wheels. This is needed to give your child the required balance initially.

And as far as your child is concerned the most important thing for them is how cool the bike looks. Try and find a bike that satisfies both your needs and that of your child. There are so many different makes and models that there is something for everyone.

Resource Box: If your child is into racing or stunts or tricks then a 20 inch bike known as a BMX bike is what he will need. Find more information at http://www.20InchBike.com
