As you get into larger scales, you have the option of propane and coal. In the opinion of many, nothing beats the way a steam locomotive looks as it powers around the track. Seeing the steam billowing from the stacks as the train glides through the landscape you created really gives you a great sense of accomplishment.
Most every child who owns a toy model train dreams of growing up to drive a real train. Some of those live that fantasy, while some who drive a train see it as a mere job.
