Summer Toys For Kids
Swimming Pools
When we were kids how many times did we look at our neighbor's yard and wish that we could jump in their pool? The heat has started and it would be perfect if everyone had a way that they could cool off while playing outside. Why not invest in a small pool that your kids can play in? These can be found in a assortment of sizes and will cost between $50 to $300. This price will depend on the how big they are and if they are inflatable or above ground.
Slides
For many of us it is simply not smart to buy a pool. Instead you should buy a water slide. All you will need is the slide and a sprinkler to keep it wet and smooth. Your youngsters will still be able to run around and cool off at the same time. These are half the price and are safe for kids of all ages to use.
Inflatable Indoor Bouncers
It isn't every day that your kids are able to play in a bounce house? Commonly these are large enough to hold ten kids and might cost hundreds of dollars. Yet, you can now get the indoor inflatable bouncers that can fit in your kid's room. They cost a whole lot less and your kids and their friends will have hours of fun!
Gogos Crazy Bones Toy Shopping - A Check List For Parents
- Gogos Crazy Bones are little sticker size packets of mini plastic figures. You will not be able to see which figures you are buying until the packets are bought and opened.
- The packets are quite cheap at only £1 but you need enough Gogos to play the game properly - one packet will not do!
- There are hundreds of these little characters now covering four series. The latest series is series 4, called Power and comes in blue packets. Half of the Power Gogos are metallic.
- If you can only buy older series the following information details the order they were released: series 1 (red packets), series 2 called Evolution (yellow packets) and series 3 called Explorer (green packets).
- Each packet of series 1-3 includes three Gogos and three stickers. The series 4 packets only have two Gogos and two trading cards rather than stickers. If your child is expecting a certain number of Gogos, make sure you buy enough series 4 packets so they are not disappointed.
- If your child does not know how to play with the little figures in one of the many rolling, catching or throwing games, make sure you buy a starter pack or one of the books available to teach them the basics.
- To avoid your child losing these little toys all over your house and you stepping on them inadvertently, buy a storage solution. There are two available - a metal tin that comes with 10 Gogos only available when bought with the tin, and a smaller bag that comes with one packet of Gogos. The bag will hold about 30 Gogos and the tin a lot more.

Customer Reviews
Better than the deluxe for younger children. My four year old Ben10 fan borrowed this FX Omnitrix from a friend earlier this year and loved it. It doesn't really do anything but light up and make the Ben10 noises but the sounds are very authentic and the watch seems to very satisfying to hit before you "transform". I was nervous he was going to break his friends watch before we had a chance to give it back as he is very tough on his toys and we ended up having it for about a month, in which is was played with pretty much every day. Dropped on the floor alot, bashed on the wall alot etc, but it was in the exact same condition when he gave it back so must be pretty tough.
I saw both the FX and the deluxe version on sale online recently but only the deluxe was in stock so I bought this for my son thinking that if anything it would be a bit better. For a slightly older child who can read, maybe 6 and up, it probably is better. The strap is better for a start, just a thick band of velcro so relatively easy to put on and secure once on. The watch has a black and white display. To start with you choose from normal mode, battle mode, status mode and options. Normal mode is what I put it on for my son as he can turn the dial , see the silhouettes of each different monster as he turns the dial, when he has selected which alien he wants to be he hits the watch which makes all the right noises and then different pics of that particular alien come up on the screen. After a certain amount of time, the "returningt to Ben" noise sounds and back to the original screen.
Battle mode gives an animation of ben walking which runs for a little while when a doomy noise plays and you know that a villain is approaching. You get a pic of the villain and text along the bottom saying which alien you need to turn into it, it then times you as you turn the dial to try and find the right alien and records your score which you can then look at in status mode. If you are quick enough then I think you win against the villain but I haven;t managed to yet as have only been allowed on it for about a minute.
Battle mode is lost on my not yet reading son and unfortunately he can hit the wrong buttons on the watch as he plays and ends up turning the sound off or putting it into the wrong mode and has to bring it to me to sort out. I think he would have been happier with the fx watch really despite the worse strap. Great watch for slightly older kids tho and I have had no complaints at all from my son as yet to be fair. He thinks it's the best thing ever.
Just like the real thing
Had this toy for close to a year now and it's stood the test of time in the hands of a 4 year old boy. Don't know what kind of battery it has but it seems to be going strong and the watch is very sturdy taking loads of whacks.
It makes the noise when Ben morphs into a monster and has a spinny dial to choose the monsters.
FANTASTIC!!!
I just got this for my Ben 10 collection and it was brilliant and is just like the one in the TV programme. Only one complaint...it's really loose on second from tightest strap, because when you strap it on the tightest it seems to refuse that and it takes about 5 mins to actually put it on a 10 year old...
Scrabble 60th Anniversary Edition - Games & Puzzles Review
Scrabble 60th Anniversary Edition
From Mattel
Editorial Reviews
For 60 years Scrabble has been challenging the world with its fun, demanding and sometimes maddening word play game. This special 60th Anniversary edition is ideal for collectors and fans of the game. It comes with a translucent board along with opaque green tiles with silver lettering. The iconic tile racks have also been given a radical makeover, and the box has metallic lettering and window packaging, making it a lovely gift for Scrabble fans, or those new to the game.
Did you know Scrabble was invented in 1931 by an unemployed architect named Alfred Butts? It was quietly played by just the inventor and his friends until 1948 when it began to be manufactured and sold. Scrabble is the world's bestselling word game and once people start playing this famous word game they are usually captivated for life. Each player must make the best use of 7 letter tiles drawn at random, taking turns to form words crossword-style across the playing board. Scores are given for letter values and are boosted by premium squares on the grid. The highest score at the end wins. This is a great opportunity to update and treat yourself to a brand new Scrabble.
Customer Reviews
Poor version may look good but not functionalI bought this based on the previous positive reviews and ignored the bad one - this was a mistake. Yes Scrabble is a good game but this is a review for the 60th Anniversary edition. The board IS dark and once the pieces are down it's hard to spot the double/triple letter markers (and we have good eyesight). More annoying are the overly stylised tile holders they are unstable, fiddly and don't hold the tiles very well! The board doesn't swivel and you don't get scoring pads or timer but then this isn't a deluxe version. Overall I wish I'd bought a different version.
Brilliant Value for money
Just bought this game for my 10 year old. The board actually clips in place and does not move about as another review suggests. The pieces stay in place in the grooves. It's a lovely board game and great value for money. Would definitely recommend this purchase to everyone.
As good as the original - and better!
I've played with the original many times although this is the first set that I've owned. I like it. It's good quality and although the colour and the overall design may not appeal to traditionalists and/or people with poor eyesight, it is more functional (pieces are locked-in place by the raised edges of the grid) than the original and well worth it at the same (low) price.

Hot Christmas Toys - Lego Batman Video Games On DS, Nintendo Wii Or PSP3
If you're curious about which games your children will be playing this Christmas, the Lego Batman game is still popular. Children love Lego and the fact they can combine their favorite toy with their number one superhero is really a recipe for success. This Lego game comes in numerous editions appropriate for a Nintendo Wii, DS or Playstation so you need to order the right one depending on the console you already have.
So what's the Batman Lego game all about? Regardless of the medium used i.e. Wii, DS or Playstation, the fundamentals are the same. The game is set in Gotham City where Batman and Robin are struggling to return the villains to the asylum. They struggle through the ocean, land and air in various Batmobiles such as the stealthy Batwing. You must build some things and solve a variety of puzzles to unlock special powers and so on. There's no need to be knowledgeable on the Batman story either. This particular game, unlike Lego Star Wars or Lego Indiana Jones doesn't keep to the movie script.
Each and every level is required to be played two times, once in story mode and again in free play. In story mode, you're able to unlock a variety of personas which you then use to play during the free play mode. Once you are in free play you're able to work out puzzles and release bonuses. It's also possible to construct vehicles and weaponry to use to fight your foes.
The characters have unique actions and there's a variety of elements to the game so you and your kids wouldn't become bored playing. Young kids could have difficulties a little using the techniques although with a little help they will be fine. Many will appreciate that compared with other Wii games you won't start again if you ever die but merely drop coins.
Whilst we like to believe children love the goodies, it is fair to say that they'll love being the baddies equally as much or even more. With this video game you are able to play from either side i.e. they might be Batman or Robin or they may choose to be one of the many villains such as Joker, Catwoman or Penguin.
The Lego Batman game can be played either by yourself or with other people for added fun. If you are stuck on a level and just can't find your way out there are movies online with answers. It is enjoyable trying to work out the puzzles by yourself but often it gets a little frustrating. Obviously if you would like cheat your way through the Lego Batman game you can get plenty of clues to help you do this but that actually spoils the pleasure of this great game.
The Lego Batmam Game is on the list as one of the hottest toys for Christmas 2010. Visit us at http://www.allthingschristmas.org to find Batman Lego Games and more of the top toys for Christmas.
Be sure to shop early this year as most of the top Christmas 2010 toys are very reasonably priced and are certain to sell out early!

Squinkies Teatime Surprise - Christmas Toys 2010
The Squinkies Tea Time Surprise Playset is a dispensing machine in the form of a tea set play set. Children love to pretend that they are grown ups and so imitate their parents and other elders in their fun games. This is one such game where kids can pretend to have a tea party, like elders do, with the Squinkies characters and earn handsome rewards in the process as well.
The set consists of a teapot-dispensing machine, four good-looking teacups around the base of the teapot, five special Squinkies with their five bubble containers and two fake play coins. The little character is the prize in the game and children can win them by inserting either the fake coins or real coins in the teapot. These creatures are contained inside bubble packs and hold a surprise for the winner children till the pack is opened. The game is recommended for kids aged 4 and above.
Kids can fill in the Squinkies Tea Time Surprise Playset with Squinkies that have been supplied to them or others they have collected from elsewhere. They then have to insert either a real coin or the fake ones, they have been given, in the game set and turn the heart shaped pink colored dial. A Squinkie then pops out of the shoot. The play set can also act as a sort of a money bank when real coins are inserted. This will encourage kids to save money. Alternatively, parents can also use this as reward system popping out a surprise Squinkie as the reward by inserting either of the coins.
Girls particularly enjoy this game. The tiny toys popping out of the teapot is fun. They also play around imagining these toys as real characters and involving them in tea parties. These mini toys can be ponies, puppies, babies, kiddies, ponies, rings and many other such things. The game also comes with a booklet with numbered figures to make collecting easier. So don't wait, play the game and collect them all.
The game set is carefully designed. It is brightly colored to get your kid's attention at first sight. This play set is not very big at all. Typical dimensions are 8 x 3.7 x 7.5 inches and it weighs only 1.2 pounds. The Squinkies fits into the palm of your hands and are so cute and kids will want to collect them all. The surprise element of this game, the toy being packed inside bubble containers, tickles the childish curiosity and adds another attraction to the game. The teapot is pretty and kids like it immediately. Typically it can store 7 Squinkies. The size is a bit smaller, but this makes it east to store and improves its portability. Cupcake and gumball machines are larger and can store lot more stuff. It is a better idea to get one of these accessories with the Squinkies Tea set. This will add fun to the game and the kids will enjoy it more.
The little Squinkies are separately sold in bubble pack series. This Squinkies Tea Time Surprise Playset is therefore a really inexpensive addition to your kid's toy collection. They will play it on for hours together, enjoy it and learn a few good old fashioned things about saving money in the process. This game is hugely popular and is sold out even before Christmas.
Another toy that will boost your child's imagination and interest in collecting. New for this Christmas so these are going to be hot sellers. Beat the Christmas rush and order now! Visit Squinkies Teatime Surprise Playset

Balance Bikes - The Best Seller Ride on Toy for Toddlers
Choosing a ride on toy that offers value for money and looks like something our child would ride is normally the first starting point. Factor in the safety advice from the manufacturers and it can get very confusing. Some parents do not get any further down the decision process and go for the bright shiny one their child was clambering to get at, on the last shopping trip. I was also guilty of this - until I discovered the balance bike for my own children!
Could there be much else to consider when choosing an outdoor toy! I learnt there is...
Most of us come home with a shiny, plastic, push handled tricycle that looks great and will promise to adapt with our ever growing kids, but only to find it's the very last thing our child wants to play with long term.
Most children get very bored sitting in them as they are so difficult to pedal, whilst we struggle to get them up and down curbs without them tipping over and even going in a straight line is hard work. If you have to take a buggy for a younger child at the same time then you require two adults!
Then we reach for bikes with stabilisers in the hope that our children will be able to do something for themselves, but maybe we shouldn't be surprised that this doesn't happen as quickly as we would like. Perhaps it is due to the feeling of insecurity that the child experiences after all that rocking from one stabiliser to the other. Add the difficulty of trying to master handlebar brakes that were never really designed with little fingers in mind and you can see how this way of learning to ride a bike can actually create fear.
The hardest skill, balance, has never been learnt. This is where the balance bike enters...
Designed for a toddler and in some cases from as soon as they can walk, the balance bike promotes the child's independence from the beginning. You are actually encouraged not to assist them.
They have two wheels, no pedals or sprockets and the child simply straddles the bike and moves it by walking along. As the child's confidence improves they get faster at their own pace and it all becomes fun. There is an ever increasing range of balance bike available now in the UK, from wooden bikes through to the stronger metal lightweight bikes.
When considering a balance bike check that the bike is light and easy to control and designed for toddlers - the lightest balance bikes are 3.1 K.g so lighter than a newborn and easy for a 2 year old to lift up themselves. That the bike is strong enough and won't break and that it has puncture proof tyres - easy to maintain.
Check it has a footrest! This is important as it helps balance when coasting down hills, and the children need somewhere to rest feet going over bumps. When adults cycle over bumps we take the impact in our legs, by resting feet on pedals - if we were to leave our feet dangling...well need I say more!
Finally you want the most adjustable bike out there so that it does grow with your child and they can use it for a few years. Adjustable handlebars and seat positions in any increment are the best so it fits your child at any stage.
That it looks like a bike! Toddlers at some stage, want to imitate older children and whilst one bike looks great to a 2 year old, be-aware they might not think it is so cool when they reach 4! After all, some bikes are designed for 1- 5 years of age- lets buy them a bike that they will like for that long!
Karen Wood set up Strider Bike UK, to introduce this revolutionary new balance bike the Strider PreBike to the UK. We accept all major cards either on our site http://www.learningearly.co.uk or by calling 01926 339107. We are also recruiting dealers across the UK or in Europe.

Dave The Funky Shoulder Monkey - A Must-Have Toy
Dave The Funky Shoulder Monkey is poised to be this year's Christmas sell-out toy. It's not the most sophisticated toy on the market but it's remote controlled with a repertoire of rude gestures which has been tipped as a Christmas favorite by the big toy shops. This kind of 'virtual pet' gift was very popular last year and this cheeky Monkey is expected to be huge this year.
The British independent toymaker Wow! Stuff, have warned that they are unlikely to meet the demand leading up to Christmas and could end up being the toy every child wants but no parent can buy. Toys R Us are behind the surge in demand in the US where they have listed Dave The Funky Shoulder Monkey among its top Christmas buys across its 580 stores there. The toys are made in two factories in China and they have just opened a third to cope with demand. Originally planned to supply 250,000 of the toys with 200,000 of those in the UK, the third factory will boost production by another 450,000 but many of those will not arrive on the shelves in time for Christmas. The UK should receive around 70% of its demand but only around 10% of the US demand of around one million Monkeys will be met in that time. Parents are being urged to shop extra early this Christmas to avoid being disappointed.
Dave The Funky Shoulder Monkey is very engaging and although primarily aimed at the 5 to 12 age range, he seems popular among young people up to 24 years old and beyond. Described by some as simply irresistible, he can be charming, adorable, cute and mischievous all at the same time.
The Monkey is mounted on the shoulder and at just 20cm (8 inches) tall, looks very realistic, like a small black squirrel monkey with white fur around his pink face and has pink hands and feet. He is operated with a remote control unit which can make it sing, laugh, break wind, burp, blow raspberries and turn its head and wave. With the remote control hidden away in your pocket, you can interact with your friends and passers-by and they will think it is a real cheeky Monkey, performing tricks and amusing everyone.
Dave The Funky Shoulder Monkey comes in an attractive gift box containing the monkey and the remote control unit. All you will need is a 9V battery to bring him to life.
