Play Ball With Your Seven Months Old Baby

Babies are always fascinated by things that roll and by the way they move. However, it takes some time for them to understand the exact way such objects move, but they will still want to play ball as much as possible.

Kids always try to catch the ball and watch its moves all the time. The mother can also get involved in the game, so that their baby has who to play with. In time, the babies will learn to throw the ball towards their mother. However, it takes a lot more time for the baby to learn how to kick the ball because they need to practise a lot and to develop their nervous system more in order to be able to make more complex moves.

There are a lot of ways to play with your baby once they reach the age of seven months or that of nine months because they start to understand things and they aren't amazed by the world quite as much. Of course, they will want to discover more and more things that they see around them, but they can also move, therefore, they have a more active way of playing. You can play hide-and-seek with them, this being one of the games they will always enjoy the most. Since they like discovering things so much, it is obvious that they will like it when you hide them away from them and they need to find them.

Babies are very surprising, but they are also very lovable, especially when you get to play with them and you see them smiling all the way.

Buying Baby Toys - A Parents Guide

A mother or father must provide a toy or a plaything to their baby. The toys are the baby's 1st best friend. Yet, what type of toy will you be giving to your baby? There are a lot of toys to pick from. Prior to scanning store isles while buying toys for the baby, keep in mind to purchase toys which can't be broken easily. A broken toy or doll could be dangerous as the parts will allow the baby to imagine that its food and may attempt to swallow it. This isn't very good if he should swallow something from a broken toy or doll.

Month 0 to 1

The infant possesses senses that are limited and toys that offer stimulation could be helpful. The baby possesses vision that is extremely limited, so toys that have strong contrasting movement and colours are appropriate. A cot mobile brightens up the room and offers stimulation. Plain activity gyms on the floor additionally offer stimulation. Rattles always are accepted by babies.

Month 1 to 3

The baby is developing quickly and will begin to lift his or her head and discover that his or her world is different! Some play mats and activity gyms offer reaching shapes that baby could begin to "hit". Rattles that are connected to some foot socks are additionally good for kicks on the mat. This kind of toy encourages the hand to eye coordination development and motor skills. The utilization of some texture is vital and toys that have several sounds and materials are loved.

Month 3 to 6

This includes an exciting period as the baby will become more curious about his or her environment and his or her mouth! The baby will enjoy picking up tiny toys and turning them over in his or her hand - prior to experiencing an enjoying chew!

Toys that have sounds will intrigue the baby, yet keep in mind that you'll be required to deal with the tunes! Designs which mix numerous sections or different parts, such as stacking blocks, offer stimulation. The baby could be given books - perhaps books that have animals that will offer the grandparents opportunities to practice the farmyard sounds.

Month 6 to 9

Baby might be sitting up now as well as attempting to crawl, so toys that will encourage some crawling are great. These include toys that could roll like balls that are soft with textures or wooden balls. This includes a great period to introduce some books that have hand movement and nursery rhymes, perhaps with CDs to aid with singing!

Month 9 to 12

The baby's on the move! Crawling and sitting now is familiar and furniture walking is lots of fun - but only a tiny bit unstable. A four wheel trolley that has a handle encourages mobility. The baby is beginning to be independent and is exercising his or her options of play items. Picking a certain toy from a box is an aspect of the development. Manual dexterity is vital, so the toy that might be separated or opened and picked up is fun. The baby now will love toys that have music and might possess a toy that is special (be sure you include a backup toy that is special just in case there's a loss).

Should I Buy Baby Toys That Are Fun, Or Educational?

The great parenting debate

It's a dilemma that you'll face quite a few times throughout your parenting life - do you go for something that you know the kids will love and go crazy over (usually either junk food or based on a TV character), or do you buy something that's healthy - for either their body or mind? Fortunately, it's a topic that you won't have to tackle for some months after you become a parent, as there is little difference in toys for babies. Today we explore how you can create a healthy mix of 'fun' baby toys and educational baby toys from ages 0-3.

Before their first birthday

Before your child turns one, there is actually no debate to have. Every single toy you can offer your baby is educational... no matter how fun it looks. There's no way to 'spoil' your under-1 year old with toys. It doesn't matter how much advertising a toy contains, and how pointless it seems to an adult, all baby toys can be learned from equally and drooled on equally at this age. Even some of those that are ordinarily vilified...

Is television good for my baby?

Yes, even television has plenty to teach young kids - the stimulation of bright colours and music, the challenge of pattern recognition, as well as the abundant human faces (which babies are pre-programmed to pay attention to) mean that television can be a great learning experience for babies. Of course, your child can have too much of a good thing - the key is balance.

Into toddlerhood

As your child moves into toddlerhood, you'll start to have to focus on creating a mix of 'fun' time and educational time. Some children naturally pay little attention to advertising and television, and would far prefer to be playing with age-appropriate puzzles or challenge-based toys, getting muddy in the garden, or being read to. And of course, it's wise to let your children lead if they naturally lean towards activities that will stimulate their learning. In other situations though, you'll need to provide alternating 'fun' and educational experiences in terms of toys, television and activities.

The case for 'fun' baby toys

Here are some pertinent points when you're thinking about baby toys for over-1s that are purely for fun:

• All toys, even fun-based toys, provide some level of education at this age

• Toys that your child finds fun will likely get played with more often, making them both better value for money and more likely to help him learn

• Children usually stop finding toys fun when they stop teaching them something...

However, you do need to make sure (especially with older toddlers) that they don't fall into a mental rut where they habitually play with baby toys that they find 'easy'. If you notice this, you'll need to take the lead and start showing them how to use baby toys for older ages, helping them build confidence.

The case for educational baby toys

Educational baby toys are usually thought of as those that help build those skills that will be used in formal education. For example, shape naming and recognition toys, colour matching toys, and any baby toy that has a 'purpose' and presents a significant challenge can be thought of as educational. Here's why it can be great to use these baby toys to push your toddler past the boundaries of fun:

• Educational toys can instil a sense of pride in achievement which is very useful later in life

• Building the skills of traditional education means that your child will feel more comfortable and confident in a kindergarten or school environment, and therefore do better

• Educational toys usually need parental involvement... it's a great excuse to spend time with them!

Plastic Baby Toys - Are They Truly Dangerous?

Within your weird, frenzied planet, it's hard to be able to even complete a simple decision on something, isn't it? To illustrate, you want to choose your son or daughter's initial infant toy, but which one could you select?

Now, it can be uncomplicated when picking your infant plaything to think about what you think the baby would want. That can be a colossal blunder. What exactly is your son or daughter interested by? Just what colours or creatures will they interact well to? Just what stimulus will they respond effectively to? Now, think about what colors, shapes and animals they hate. Are they afraid of any animals or creatures? Steer clear of those shapes, colors and animals!

You should contemplate plush toys and games as your child's first toy vehicle. Not only are they soft and cuddly, they usually are made in characters and animals your child will find appealing.they normally are made in popular puppy shapes and characters your child is acquainted with. Not only will your child learn more about animals and shapes (from you, not the toy), the plush baby toys can be a wonderful sleeping or napping companion. What's more, your son or daughter's plush toy can reduce the concern of resting by themselves. Finally, plush toys don't have any moving parts or bits and pieces that can fall off and hurt your child.

You should always make sure that when purchasing your plush toy, they don't contain moving parts or dangerous hazards.

Trying to find an alternative solution to plush? Try a plastic baby toy. The plastic toys often glow and make all sorts of interesting sounds, and can appear in the form of puzzles that your infant loves to answer.

The frightening aspect of these toys is that they often have dangerous moving parts or pieces that can cause a overall health risk to your baby.

So now you have a good idea of the positives and negatives of plush and plastic toys.. These 2 kinds of baby toys are sure winners in any household. If your child is a boy, try a play pen toy or a construction set. If you have a baby girl, you might select a tea set with different figurines or a newborn doll home.

Always be mindful of any kind of choking problems before you purchase your baby toy, but if you're able to find the money for it, you need to get both a plush and a plastic newborn toy. Sure you could stick with one or the other, but you might as well grab both while you can.

Finally, move on the world wide web to Amazon.com or OverStock.com and find yourself a few good discounts on plastic-type and plush baby toys and games! Most of these websites generally have a used section (inside Amazon it's under the New price ranges), and utilizing these techniques, you may save a king's ransom if you hit the right time or vendor. OverStock has many times got good deals as well, so make sure to check out each of those web sites for offers. One additional web site is eBay.com. Sure, you actually do have to place a bid with regard to your plush toys or plastic toys, but it's really worth it in case you may get something for a song.

Organic Baby Toys - The Safe Choice for Your Baby

Think twice before letting your baby play with that new toy you just bought. Is it safe? What is it made out of? Many well-intentioned parents do not consider the dangers present in the baby toys they purchase. This article explains the dangers that may be present in these toys and why organic baby toys are the safe choice for your baby.

It is not the aim of this article to discuss some of the more obvious dangers that may be found in infant toys. These include sharp edges, small pieces (such as buttons) that can be bitten off and swallowed, and parts that can pinch a baby's skin. These are valid concerns. However this article concentrates on the less obvious and usually more over looked dangers involving chemicals present in non-natural toys. There are many toxic chemicals that are legally used in the production of toys. For example polyvinyl chloride, and phthalates that can be found in almost all plastic toys. Residual pesticides can be found in toys made of cotton. There are no studies linking the presence of these chemicals in baby toys to cancer or any other ailment. However many parents are playing it safe and opting for organic baby toys. These parents are not willing to wait for what future research may discover about the dangers that these chemicals present. Organic toys are made without the use of chemicals. The manufacturers of these all natural toys use all natural ingredients to produce toys you can feel safe giving to your baby.

Examples of organic baby toys (natural baby toys) include:

- Plush toys, such as a blanky, made from 100% organic cotton. Cotton grown without the use of pesticides and other chemicals used on crops.

- Wooden toys, such as rattles, not painted at all or painted with natural dyes.

- Rubber toys, such as a teething ring, made from rubber grown organically that does not contain any chemicals.

A baby's body is still developing and is much more susceptible to dangerous chemicals than are adults. The fact that they will be cuddling with their toys and putting them in their mouths compounds the concerns over dangerous chemicals being present. Organic infant toys are becoming increasingly popular as information about the dangers of non natural baby toys becomes available. There are many on-line stores that offer true organic toys.

Baby Toys That Help Your Baby's Development For Up to One Years Old

There are many things you need to help your baby develop during this early stage and the most important things are feeding, changing and lots of love from the parents and family of course. All too soon that little bundle of joy will start to become a little person who has his or her own personality and starts to look around and begin to learn about the world around him or her.

It will start with shiny or light objects such as jewellery, television or your mobile phone and once your baby starts observing these things, they are ready and aware of the world around them, enough to start interacting with things.

There are many items on the market that improve a baby's development and help stimulate their world but the following items are ones that will cover all the aspects important for your baby.

A Shape Sorter - There are many models out there made from various materials like wood and plastics. Some will make sounds as the shapes are put through the container and some are more basic, but it will not matter to your baby. At this stage, they're learning from you, so it will be all about your interactions with the shape sorter that they will learn what it's all about. Talking about what the shapes are and their colours and where they go and celebrating when you have put the shape through, will all be your actions to begin with but as baby grows, they will hold the shapes and then learn to put them in. Once they are toddlers, they can tell you the shape and colours too. This toy will be one you play with and learn from, then hide it for a few months and then play with again and see how much your child has developed in terms of knowledge and understanding, as well as physical skills.

Stacking Cups - They are also great beginner toys, as to begin with your baby will simply hold them and may even hold two one in each hand and bang them together, which is an important part of their first years development. As your baby progresses, you can really play with them, stacking up the cups as fast as you can, before they knock it down and then on to them trying to stack the cups on their own. Again talking about size and colour can go hand in hand with stacking cups and you can even get creative and hide things under them to see if baby remembers which cup it's under. This toy will also be hours of fun at this early stage and they will learn so much through the interaction with you.

Books are an amazing way for your baby to learn and there are hundreds of different types out there from bath books to buggy books, textured books, flap books, noisy books, alphabet and character books. Your baby will love looking at simplistic colourful pictures and hearing your voice, so books are the perfect way to help a child learn the basics of phonics, which is the key to communication through speaking and reading and writing later on in life.

Anyway you can stimulate your child's world will help them to learn something new, which is the cornerstone of their development, and if you can have fun too, you are helping them be happy and contented.

Choosing Natural Baby Toys

Now that natural baby toys are in high demand, there is a surprisingly good -- and fun -- variety from which to select gifts for friends or your own children. Whether the intention is to support local artisans, encourage the use of beautiful and natural products, or simply to avoid potentially toxic materials, you're in good company -- many conscientious parents are now choosing natural baby playthings for their infants. Wooden teething toys made in Germany, wool and organic cotton dolls handmade in America, and solid wood blocks from Asia are just a few of the many natural baby toys made from child-friendly materials available today.

When shopping for eco- and kid-friendly baby toys, there a few criteria to keep in mind. While few toys will disappoint, some are better made than others or will be more suitable depending on the child's age and other factors. For example, wooden clutching and teething toys should be introduced around three months and babies will typically outgrow these before they turn a year old. Buying several natural baby toys, such as a wooden rattle, organic cotton animal, and hemp cloth book, ensures the child will have variety and not tire quickly of his toys. Wooden blocks can be played with from infancy through preschool -- and even beyond, when older children use them to make forts for toys soldiers or houses for small dolls.

When shopping, consider the materials used to make the natural baby toys you find. Organic wool and natural hardwoods, as well as organic cotton and rubber wood, are some of the top-quality elements in natural toys. Painted pine is less appealing and usually made more cheaply than hardwood stained with natural ingredients, but is still a step above plastic items.

Compare the design and appeal of several natural baby toys in the same category before purchasing. For example, there is a range of attractiveness and unique design when it comes to simple grasping toys for infants. Some are simply prettier and more pleasing to the eye than others, and feel better made than their cheaper counterparts.

Check the country of manufacture. While some mass produced wooden toys are made in factories in China, Selecta and Haba items are made in Germany and Animals and Arks still makes its natural baby toys in the United States. Supporting toy makers local to you or at least within your country is eco-friendly, as the toys have less distance to travel and are supporting local endeavors.

There are many beautiful and innovative naturally-made toys on the market today. With a little exploring, you can find some lovely gifts and heirloom-quality items you would be happy to keep in your own home. And in the end, that's the test all natural baby toys should have to pass.

Benefits of Baby Plush Toys

A plush toy is often a stuffed toy much like a teddy bear or some sort of children's television character, it is made of a cotton stuffing with velvet and other textile materials forming the outer layer. The whole toy is stitched together to create a virtually harmless, colourful fun looking object which children often enjoy playing with. These toys are often seen as a children's friend. These plush toys come in a variety of sizes, the biggest plush toys can often be bigger than the child that would play with it, and conversely they can also be incredibly small.

These toys can be used in many different ways. They usually serve as a friendly face to sleep with, they could be characters which children use in role-playing games. They can also be a medium for a child to feel that it is contacting the character its self. Also the children feel an obligation to look after and take care of the toy, giving the child a toy to look after can be a very constructive task as the child will pick up many pieces of information from looking after its very own plush toy.

There are various different benefits of plush toys, ranging from educational reasons to just being a decorative object in a child's room. They can often comfort a child in times of need and make a child feel safe and secure, as the child places trust in a familiar face. A distressed child will often seek its favourite toy over a parent or carer because it is something close to their heart. The toy can also offer a variety of stimulus which helps the child learn. The stimulus can be the texture of the toy, or maybe the smell, it could even be the colour of the toy as teaching a child all of these things and adding a friendly face to these newly taught items will create a connection which will help a child to remember the information much easier than without anything to associate with it, hence why almost all children's education programs have a life size plush toy or fictional character to present the show.

They can be seen as the best type of toy to give your child for all the reasons stated above. They can even be collected as many children strive to enhance their plush toy collection, maybe they want the newest video game inspired plush to have a set which they can play with. Overall they greatly develop a child's creativity along with many other vital skills, the positive stimulus it places on the brain can be very constructive in aiding the brain to mature naturally. Children who have been raised playing with wonderful colourful and interesting plush toys are often more inquisitive, happier and have a heightened aptitude for learning, all this combines makes them one of the ultimate toys to give your child.

Compare and Buy Baby Toys

This would help you buy the ideal gift for your child, which would be pleasing for both the baby and mom. Choosing the toy can be difficult these days, as there are many factors to be considered before buying a toy. Those factors include safety, aptness and color, also considering that no gifts are similar. These factors include the basics and help in picking up the best.

The comparing of the baby toys can be done on the following basis:

Safety: it is the most essential factor you should give a thought to. Some variety of toys comes with the small pieces which can even be separated and can be a big problem in case the babies swallow it. Though the toys comes with a age tag on the packets, but in most of the cases, you have to make your own choice which is most suitable for your baby.

Color and Theme: the colors preferred are light blue or turquoise for baby boys and soft pink for girls. The themes are also different for both boys and girl babies.

Age of Baby: the age of the baby is also the necessary consideration. For example a building block game is not suitable for a baby as small as 2 or 3 months. The educational toys could be quite useful at early stages too.

Durability: there should be some consideration given to the life expectancy of a toy too. Some toys last only for short, some toys are more durable and last for some years and some are the best which last for a lifelong and can be used in making memorable.

Best Idea: the best idea would be to narrow down your search to the above major factors which cover all the aspects of color, theme, age and durability.

Baby Plush Toys Are the Perfect Gift

Baby plush toys are suited for children of all ages. They have certainly grown in demand and I also have to say this is with good reason too. If you are buying a toy for a child or baby you have to make sure that the gift of choice is not going to cause the child or mom for that matter any harm or major concerns. Plush toys are pretty much guaranteed to satisfy the best of both worlds.
They come in a sensational range of stimulating colors, themes, shapes and sizes. No matter the age of the child you are buying the gift for you will be assured to acquire the most pleasing present of all.
Throughout our childhoods most of us can recall or remember one of our favorite baby toys or most treasured toys. And in the majority of cases it would be a soft or plush baby toy. Since we were children the manufacturers have taken the simple plush baby toy and turned them into something quite unique.
Today you are able to purchase such toys that act as night lights. Some glow in the dark and others play soft soothing music or a combination of both. Other baby toys in this category also come with sensors, an educational focus as well as providing the child with companionship for life. Plush toys can be based on a child's favorite movie character or theme and topics. And depending where you buy your baby toys you can even go one step further and have them personalized. It may cost a little extra but it is absolutely worth it.
Cleaning plush toys is very easy. You can gently wipe them down with a damp cloth. They can be vacuumed for dust. Soft plastic combs or brushes can be used to clean the toys as well. You just need to bear in mind that they do need gentle cleaning attempts. If you are buying the toy for a baby you will probably have far less cleaning requirements than that of a toddler. Toddlers tend to bond with these toys and take them everywhere. At night whilst your child is sleeping just give the toy a quick wipe down.
Harsh cleaning chemicals are not advised including hair brushes that have been used on pets or humans. The hair of your pet or yourself can easily get stuck to the toy therefore creating an additional problem. In the first instance just give them a gentle wipe down with a damp cloth. This is the easiest and most effective way of doing this.
Early childhood development is so important. Fortunately there is a lot of good education to help parents provide the best chances and opportunities for their children. The right type of plush toy can assist your child's learning capabilities more so than other toys. I have to admit that the range of these particular toys is vast. There are literally thousands of which you can choose. Making the best choice however can be extremely time consuming and such a tedious task at that.
On a brighter note we have taken the time and effort to review and choose the best of the best for you. We have chosen the ultimate gift in the category of plush toys. And the particular toy we have chosen is both educational, affordable and safe for children from when they are babies right through to a child who is reaching their pre-teens.

Musical Toys For Your Baby

It is fun when your baby is done with the sleeping phase of her first few weeks or months of her life. It is both exciting for family and parents when the little one learns new things and explores her surroundings. More aware of sounds and actions, and family can play with the little one. Children develop skills faster than you think in their early age. This is a good time to buy baby items and toys that fits your baby's development.

You can now throw or store away the infant toys and bring on the baby toys such as baby walker or musical toys for your baby's playtime. Toys are a big part of a child's learning process and exploring shapes colors and sounds are good for their development.

Toys with music helps stimulate your child's brain, go for toys that have features and functions with music and different sounds. Animal sounds, or beeping sounds are good, also lights and moving objects are good for your child. It fascinates babies a lot.

If you have notice babies are attracted to abstract objects and clear colors, this helps babies differentiate objects and shapes in their mind. If you have been hearing the same song while you were pregnant with your baby, try playing the song for your baby now and you will see she or he can recognize the beat and tone of the music and she or he will stop whatever he or she is doing and listen carefully. This is because even in mommy's tummy babies develop certain skills and senses already.

Helping your child enhances his skills and developments through playing and exploring is good way to teach your child how to differentiate patterns, movements, feelings and it also stimulate their intellectual developments.

Learning should be fun, with the right toys and books, your baby will be a happier baby and a more playful one. This also helps build her confidence if you let your child explore freely in your home or outdoor.

Gift Ideas For Baby Toys

Baby toys come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors, but the best baby toy gift ideas are as follows:

When choosing a baby toy gift, look for something with the following attributes:

1. Bold colors: Brightly colored toys will keep a baby's attention longer, and will help them to distinguish between parts, and what goes with what. For example, a toy that requires a baby to match shapes with the space they go in, reinforces the idea with color coordinating openings and shapes. Great examples of toys that make great baby gifts, and are brightly colored are almost anything by Lamaze, and the Touch n' Sing blocks by Neurosmith, which come in a variety of subject matters.

2. Something that makes a sound: Just make sure it is not sharp noises. Babies love toys that make sounds, and music can also be very educational, especially when introduced at a young age. Consider toys such as the Baby's 1st Birthday Music Set - by Edushape. Also touch n sing blocks are great, or the Mozart block. Finding toys that make music, or produce sounds that are pleasant for baby will result in more play and development.

3. Something simple: Baby toys are supposed to increase in complexity as a baby learns new skills. So, as you choose a baby toy, look for something that fits their skill level, or exceeds it by just a little bit. You want to help them develop their basic motor skills, and attune their fine motor skills. So, toys that can be pushed, pulled, tugged, etc. are all great, but keep them simple. Sometimes the best toy for a baby is a set of brightly colored blocks that the can stack, push over, throw, etc. Other great baby toy gift ideas for improving locomotive skills include plastic animals, dolls, rattles, and any toy that can help improve attention span, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.

4. Illustrates cause and effect: Babies love toys that they can control, and their learning and development will progress if you give them a toy that responds with a sound or movement when the baby touches or grabs it. It teaches them cause and effect, and gives them a sense of themselves, and their power.

5. A toy that is educational: Educational toys for babies should stimulate the five senses, or at least the three most important, sight, sound, and touch. Look for toys like wrist rattles, squeak toys, pop-up toys, pull toys, musical toys, activity centers, cloth books, mirrors, and mobiles. These help with all of the above mentioned criteria, and can help you get your baby on the right track with development and learning.

A few great toys for babies include:
- Foam blocks
- Pull toys
- Tap a tune piano
- Bath toys
- Rattles
- Crib mobiles
- Etc.

Base your gift choice off the stage of development and inclinations of the child.

Baby Toys and Learning

Babies, from the day they are born, are constantly learning about the world about them, they do this mainly through play. Introducing educational baby toys to your child can stimulate tiny minds and help develop them into happy, inquisitive toddlers.

At first, the best type of toys for your baby are those that hang above their head. As babies are unable to sit up until a few months old, laying down looking at a ceiling all day can get pretty boring! Babies also spend a lot of time in their cots so having a mobile hanging over the top is a great way to give them something to look at, and make them happy.

Babies cannot communicate verbally so instead they start by touching and feeling things. Learning toys are a great way to develop these skills, such as books with different textures on each page, shiny, rough, matt, soft, fluffy etc are readily available. This touching can then help bonding with parents as baby will now know how to reach out and touch faces, smiles, hair - life changing moments.

Noisy toys are also a great source of delight to babies, they can hold onto a rattle and shake it themselves, learning that they are controlling the noise. They also take delight in surprising themselves with a sudden noise. Rattles will advance into louder toys, but remember not all toys need to be expensive, experiment with household objects - try giving your baby a saucepan and a wooden spoon - guaranteed hours of fun (and lots of noise)

House hold objects as toys give babies the opportunity to copy their parents. For example toy phones, from a young age babies recognise what holding a phone looks like from seeing their parents holding one - although be careful, many toy shops sell the old fashioned types of phones with the receiver, my son had no idea this was a phone, so we gave him one of our mobile phones to play with and he knew in an instant to hold it to his ear or to press buttons.

Once your baby has better developed sensory skills and it really getting to grips with their baby toys, they will then have gained enough strength to investigate movement and ways to test their strength. This means a whole new set of toys, the old ones - such as the mobile over the cot will just get pulled down by now. Baby walkers are a great way for babies to start getting upwardly mobile! They can pull themselves up into a standing position and then use them to lean on as they move and walk. Do shop around for your baby walker though, there are a great variety of them about, some transform into little carts, or some have a carry bit for building blocks etc - more toys for your money!

Toys that involve mum or dad playing with them are always firm favourites with babies and means they are learning even though they don't realise it because they are having so much fun! Books with pull outs and flaps teach baby new skills, or how about puppets, talking puppets will help develop babies speech and they will love watching mum or dad putting on a show.

I hope this has given you some helpful ideas, and here is one last idea - don't buy all your toys new, buy second hand, toy swap with other mums, make toys from things you find around the house - be creative. Learning toys needn't cost a fortune.

Lovely little positioner!5
I use this in the cot for my very young baby. It gives piece of mind knowing they cant roll over in their big cot. It also looks really lovely and is very baby friendly with the cute animals! It has vents for air to flow and is size adjustable. Probably only suitable for small babies though because once they start to wriggle, they wriggle straight out of it!

INVALUABLE SLEEP POSITIONER, GREAT DESIGN5
I have used this product since my baby was born and it is still in use at 4 months old. It really is indispensible as it provides peace of mind as she has not once wriggled out of it. Once she is in her sleeping bag and placed in the positioner it is too snug for her to escape! TIP: As she liked the feeling of being held I feel that this was a lifesaver in the early weeks when she struggled to be put down, as the gentle pressure on her sides would provide security. Brilliant product.

Fantastic toy5
I have bought 3 Lamaze toys for my 7 month old daughter and this one is her favourite. It is very colourful, which is typical of the Lamaze range, and has lots of crinkly bits and a button that squeaks. She is entertained for a while biting on the red teething ladybird and also likes chewing on the rings. It is a big toy and hangs well from a play gym or pram. It is a bit difficult to clean but comes up fine with a good scrub with a sponge and hot soapy water. I can't recommend these toys enough, especially Freddie the Firefly.

Great toy for alert babies5
I bought this toy for my son when he was born as he is a baby that is always awake so needs lots of stimulation. This has been one of the best buys as he loves the squeaker and the colours meant he could see it when he was a few weeks old. It also rattles and he is now able to get hold of the rings at the bottom to chew. I actually put this toy in the washing machine when it fell out of the car and it was fine - the squeaker still works. A must have for those with active babies.

One man band!5
I bought this toy as it looked like it would hold my attention as well as my baby's! It did the trick as there are so many little details on it. Alongside the bright colours, which were great for my newborn as he is not able to feel the different materials yet, the back is black and white which he spends forever gazing at. Having bought the lamaze monkey also, Freddie has much more to do, including a mirror under one wing-great for peek-a-bo
