Toy Story Andy's Toy Collection - Toy Soldiers

Toy Story Andy's Toy Collection - Toy Soldiers

Good value5
These are very robust soldiers and just like the ones that appear on Toy Story, my son loves them.

A cut above4
At first, I thought that these were just going to be standard army men based on the ones from the film. However when they arrived (in good time & condition), I saw that these army men are unique in their quality. The plastic is softer but stronger then traditional toy soldiers & actually look like rendered CGI! The 2 paratroopers actually "fall with style", I love dropping them from a height & watching them glide to the floor. As stated earlier the plastic is somewhat flexible so the risk of them breaking or weakening at the base is very small.
A whopping 78 soldiers come in the bucket. They look great with the rest of the collection, inside or out of the bucket. The certificate of authenticity is always a nice bonus and they are at a comfortable price.
If you have a collection going, I can't recommend these enough! And even if these are just bought outside of a collection, they are still probably the best made toy soldiers available.

Great for imaginative play4
Bought for my son to go with other Toy Story purchases (RC Car and Buzz Lightyear). Loads of little men to play with. Son likes to line them all up and then knock them down, while wearing the tub on his head like a helmet! The two men with parachutes are tangled up now so not great but there are 73 other men so not the end of the world. Recommended.

Doctor Who Matt Smith The Eleventh Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver

Doctor Who Matt Smith The Eleventh Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver

A Very Faithful And Fun Version of the On-Screen Counterpart, But Somewhat Lacking In Build Quality4
After reading all of the negative reviews for this product, I was very nearly put off buying it altogether. But, due to my undying love of the series, I couldn't resist taking the plunge.

I've been playing around with it for a couple of hours, and I must say, I'm quite impressed with it.

Upon unpacking it, I realised just how much larger this new version was compared to the previous iterations of the Sonic Screwdriver. Not that this is a bad thing, it has a much better weight and shape to it, far more suited to the human hand. It's far less likely to drop, because you'll never forget it's there. It's not pocket-sized by a longshot, which could pose a slight problem to Doctor Who obsessives that like to take their Screwdrivers around with them. But the extra size adds a certain impressiveness to it.

Now, first gripe. The Sonic Screwdriver toys have NEVER been easy to dismantle and power up. This one is no exception. In fact, it's probably the fiddliest to set up. The manual states that you must "twist the emitter one-tenth anticlockwise, then pull the emitter away from the handle". Due to its nature as a toy, I was very anxious about twisting or turning any components for fear of breaking it. But eventually I managed to get the batteries in fine. This version takes the most batteries out of them all so far, requiring 3 of those little watch batteries rather than 2.

Reassembled, I took some more time to get to grips with the Screwdriver. Now, these toys have never been of high build quality, they've mainly been 'just so'. Due to the enlarged and stretched profile of this iteration, that fact becomes far more apparent. The prongs, or 'claw' at the end of the device feel quite breakable (hence the difficulty in assembling and disassembling it), and the somewhat hollow handle feels very plastic-y. Not a major problem, but it feels less natural than its predecessors.

The tip of the device lights up with a bright green hue. Gone is the ultra-violet functionality of the original Screwdriver, but that doesn't detract from its list of features. Another feature that remains with this toy is the extendible head. However, this version is spring-locked and shoots out at a considerable velocity. I daresay it even feels quite powerful. As the device extends, the 'claw' at the end opens up, giving further prominence to the green light. Below the 'Extend' button is a switch that activates the light and signature 'whirring' sound. However, this button WILL NOT work whilst the device is extended. For when it is extended, you can either press a small black button on the battery column (which is very fiddly and probably not intended for actual use), or a 'hidden' red button at the end of the device. There is a tip on a hinge that will swing away to reveal this button. Despite this seemingly pointless design choice, it'd probably be fun for kids.

There are four different sounds this time around, all of which are unique in their own way. The activate button has a slight delay to it, thereby allowing multiple presses to utilize the different sounds. One press will emit a standard whirring noise, three presses will cause an 'alarm' sound to begin, accompanied with alternating flashes of light from the tip (presumably, this is utilized somewhere later in the New Series, but I haven't seen it). Four presses will make the device appear faulty, as if damaged (which also probably appears later in the Series). Overall, the sounds will be enough to sate a demanding Whovian, despite the delay and slightly muffled tone of some.

Mostly, I'm pretty satisfied with the Screwdriver. Despite some of its build faults and niggles, it's a genuinely fun toy to play with, regardless of how old a Whovian you are. Although I'm certain that someone will eventually have someone's eye out with the rapid Extend feature, it's a whole lot of fun. I disagree with most of the negativity associated with the Eleventh Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver, as I've encountered little to no technical issues whatsoever (although I may in the future, we'll see). But overall, a reccomended buy!

Dissing the Sonic2
My son was over the moon with his sonic screwdriver until only 2 weeks after purchase it stopped making sounds...intermittently at first then finally totally silent...yes we tried changing batteries etc...not good enough for what is quite an expensive toy.

Cronic Screwdriver3
Purchased 2 - one for each of my sons. Within an hour, the sound chip stopped working altogether on one of them.

Great show and a fun product for the kids but really - something like this should be durable and actually work. Not cheap either.

High pressure space wings!
Now I bought this toy at my local Disney store, but I think this page would benefit from having at least one review on it

As a child of six when the original Toy Story came out, I had both Buzz and Woody when the toys were released. However grateful I was for that, its hard to admit the originals lacked the coolness seen in the films, this Buzz Lightyear IS the Buzz you see in the film with one omission - the karate chop action (though the one feature I never cared for)

The most striking thing once you get Buzz is the packaging - if you remember the awesome spaceship he came in in the films, they've done a fantastic job of recreating this (even down to the cardboard wings!), you'll get a certificate of authenticity with every Buzz too!

Onto the action figure itself though, he is proportioned wonderfully and he looks exactly like the Buzz we all love - he has many more points of articulation than the original toy released for the first film, his arms and legs swivel and rotate - his waist is on a ratchet and covered entirely in soft rubber (no hard plastic this time) which moves around, up, down and side to side

He has his brilliant Star Command flip up communicator in his arm, which when opened and closed makes wonderful sound effects, his laser has the same 'pulsating laser light' sound you know from the film also

The highlight of the toy visually however - is his 'high pressure space wings'. They release at the press of a button to yet more sound effects and spring out faithfully to show off an impressive wingspan, now this Buzz has lights on the tip of his wings, one green, one red and they take turns in blinking

Its worth mentioning that he has a couple of different modes, his 'space ranger' mode, and his 'toy' mode which are activated by his blue and red chest buttons respectively (the green is for the interactive mic feature). His space ranger mode is like having him come alive and he'll even complain about his eyes being sucked out of their sockets if you open up his space helmet (which comes complete with wooshing sounds), his head is motorised so he'll look around and talk - to you, about star command and even The Evil Emperor Zurg which occasionally prompts a laser blast

In his toy mode his head will remain static, his speaker will go quieter and tinny and he'll say a range of quotes you'd expect from a toy, (his sound effects such as the helmet wooshing, arm communicator and space wings will remain)

This is a pretty cool toy whichever way you look at it, and any child would really love it, but for those of you who grew up captivated by this particular Space Ranger, he now truly is the Swiss army knife of all toys, and as a result also the perfect replica

Perfect Buzz Lightyear
Thomas had described it perfectly.
This IS the authentic Buzz Lightyear that we can see in the movies. I think that nobody will create a better version.

The Ultimate Buzz Lightyear is incoming and it seems to be alife (but, for example, it has not wings), but this is the best toy version.

Buy it now!

Princess Peppa to the Rescue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A fabby set of Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig, Grandpa Pig and Granny Pig, Peppa Pig and George Pig - all in their 'Royal Family' disguise!

Its the latest variation on the Peppa toys, and co-incudes with the new DVD Peppa Pig - Princess Peppa [DVD] [2009]

We bought this set for our 3 year old, after looking at the castle Princess Peppa Pig Peppa's Palacewhich we thought a little pricey (we didn't buy it). We already have the house and car from last year so only wanted to add our daughter's collection.

Its brilliant value (bear in mind the Palace only comes with 2 figures) and its lovely to see the imaginative play and adventures she takes her 'Royal Family' on.

Highly recommended for any Peppa and George fan!

Customer Reviews
Great Toy, but poor quality for the money I am writing this review on behalf of my son. From his point of view he loves it. He is 6 and I'm sure he will get a lot of use out of it. From my point of view, the person who paid for it, it is very expensive for what it is. The quality isn't what it could be either. The hatches and container lids often come off and if the tank was in the hands of a ruff child things could easily break off.
